Never waxed before and not sure where to start? This guide is for you. We answer every question, honestly and without jargon. Is at-home waxing complicated? Does it hurt? What do you need to get started? Here we go.
Is at-home waxing for everyone?
Yes. Whether you've always shaved, used hair removal cream, or never removed hair at all, you can absolutely make the switch to wax. The KOKO WAX hard wax is specifically designed to be approachable, even for first-timers.
What do you need to get started?
To do your first session calmly, here's what to have on hand: a wax warmer, wax pearls suited to your zone, spatulas, Pre Wax Lotion, and After Wax Care. Everything is included in the KOKO Starter Set or the KOKO All In Set. They're the entry kits designed exactly for beginners: everything's in there, in the right amounts.
Which zone should you start with?
We recommend starting with your legs or underarms. They're accessible zones with a flat surface, and the results are visible right away. Skip the bikini zone for your very first session: it's better to learn the motion first.
Which wax for beginners?
- Azur Wax or Mango Wax for arms and legs
- Coconut Wax or Tiffany Wax for sensitive skin and underarms
- Matcha Wax for Face for the face and upper lip
-
Rose Wax or Lavender Wax for full body, super versatile

Does it really hurt?
Honestly: the first time, you'll feel something. But it's nothing like what you've heard. KOKO WAX hard wax grips the hair, not the skin, which makes it way less painful than cold wax strips or hot wax. And starting from the second or third session, the follicle weakens and the sensation drops significantly.
The fundamental steps
- Let hair grow to at least 3 to 5 mm (2 weeks after your last shave or hair removal).
- Cleanse the area and dry it well. Apply Pre Wax Lotion.
- Melt your wax pearls in the warmer until you reach a thick honey consistency.
- Apply with the spatula in the direction of hair growth, in a thin layer.
- Wait 30 seconds, hold your skin taut, then pull in one quick motion against the hair growth.
- Wrap up the session with After Wax Care.
First-time mistakes to avoid
- Don't pull upward. Always pull flat, against the hair growth.
- Don't apply wax too thick. A thin layer comes off way better.
- Don't leave the wax on too long. It gets brittle.
- Don't forget to hold your skin taut with your other hand.

How do you maintain results afterward?
Results last 3 to 4 weeks. To make them last: gentle exfoliation 3 days after your session, daily moisturizer, and regular scrubbing to prevent ingrown hairs. Our KOKO Coconut Body Scrub is ideal for getting into the habit.
